All Window Coverings

Young children can strangle in pull cords and bead chains.

To avoid entanglement, keep cords and bead chains out of reach of young children.

Install safety devices provided to reduce access to cords.

Move cribs, playpens, cots and furniture away from window covering cords and bead chains. Children can climb furniture to access the cords/chains.

Cleats on Roman Blinds

We recommend to install the cleat at a central height (or higher) and to wrap the cord around tightly when the blind is raised and also when the blind is down.

Cords must be fully wrapped around the cleats AT ALL TIMES.

Roman Blinds with Bead Chains
Fix the chain tension device to the wall so the bottom of the chain is wrapped around the device. Fix at a height which makes the chain taut and is not able to be taken off the device at any time.

  A guide to fitting your new Roman Blinds

  Before you start remember you'll need a power drill with the appropriate bit (we recommend a 5.5mm masonry bit for masonry or a 3mm HSS bit for wood or PVCu), a pencil and a cross point screwdriver.

  Fitting the Brackets

  The bracket positions illustrated are for a Roman Blind with the control chain on the right hand side of the Roman Blind. For a Roman Blind with the control on the left, the brackets should be at the opposite ends. Brackets can be top, side or face fixed to any flat surface. They must be level to ensure the smooth operation of the Roman Blind. Check that the rolled up fabric will not touch any surface. To calculate the spacing between the brackets, add 35mm (13/8") to the width of the Roman Blind fabric. Fix the brackets so that the outsides of the brackets are this distance apart.

  Fitting the Roman Blind

  Hold the Roman Blind to the brackets with the fabric hanging from the back of the Roman Blind. Fit the spring plunger into its bracket and push the Roman Blind into the bracket, depressing the plunger. With the locating hook pointing downwards and the chain guard lug at the top, place the hook into the vertical part of the '+' shaped hole in the bracket. Allow the hook to drop downwards so that it locks into place in the bracket.

  IMPORTANT

  With these instructions you will find sufficient brackets and wood screws to fit your Roman Blind. Look at the illustrations to decide which brackets have been supplied with your Roman Blind and follow the relevant instructions.
  
  N.B. Your Roman Blind has been packed with the slats in the raised position. Do not release them before fitting the Roman Blind. However, any cords which are wound around the Roman Blind should be unwound before placing the Roman Blind into the brackets.
  
  Fitting the Roman Blind
  
  Universal End Fix Brackets
  
  End fix box brackets can be screwed to the side, the top or to the face of a wall or a window frame. Mark the positions of the brackets so that the distance between the outsides of the brackets is at least 5mm (3/16") more than the width of the top of the Roman Blind. Remove the front plates from the brackets and screw the brackets in place.
  
  If intermediate brackets have been supplied these should be fitted equidistantly between the end brackets. However, care must be taken to ensure that the support arm does not cover a cord exit at the bottom of the headrail. To avoid this the intermediate bracket can be fitted to one side of the hole.
  
  Slide the Roman Blind headrail into the brackets ensuring that ALL the slats are hanging below the brackets. Replace the front plates in the end brackets by locating the two projecting lugs into the top of the bracket and swinging the plate downwards to clip into the bottom of the bracket.
  
  Face or top fixing brackets
  
  
  If extension brackets have been supplied, fit other brackets to the underside of the extension brackets using the screws provided, then follow the instructions opposite.
  
  NB. Wooden blinds have a wooden headrail valance which must be lifted off the headrail before fitting the blind. It is held in place with velcro tape.
  
  These brackets can be screwed to the top or to the face of a wall or window frame. They should be spaced equidistantly along the width of the Roman Blind. However, before selecting a fixing point, ensure that the brackets will not be over any part of the mechanism inside the headrail. Brackets should be positioned to one side of any internal fitting.
  
  After fixing the brackets pull the finger tabs to the centre of each bracket. Push the Roman Blind headrail upwards into the brackets and fold the finger tabs back towards the headrail so that they fit flush with the front of the headrail.
  
  Concealed top fix bracket
  
  N.B. Great care should be taken when using this bracket as the Roman Blind cannot be removed easily once it has been fixed in position.
  
  The bracket screws directly to a horizontal surface above the Roman Blind location. Brackets should be fitted with screws which are at least 15mm (9/16") from a wall or window frame.
  
  Fit two brackets with screws 6mm (3/8") from either end of the headrail. Further brackets, if supplied, should be fitted equidistantly between the end brackets. However, when positioning the brackets, care must be taken to ensure that they do not interfere with any part of the mechanism. The projections on the brackets must be positioned so that they engage with the lips on the headrail.
  
  After fitting the brackets push the headrail upwards so that the legs of the brackets are inside the headrail. Continue to push the headrail upwards until the projecting lugs lock firmly into the headrail.
  
  Hold down bracket
  
  This hold down bracket can be screwed to the window cill or to the side.
  
  Lower the Roman Blind to its full extent and place the hold down brackets over the spigot on the end caps so that the bottom rail of the Roman Blind can turn freely. Mark the position of the brackets, move the bottom rail to one side so that it is clear of the brackets and screw them into place. Spring the brackets outwards and clip the end caps into the holes in the brackets.
  
  
  Roman Blinds fitted with a tilt wand
  
  The tilt wand may have been fitted to your Roman Blind during manufacture. If not proceed as follows:
  
  Take the plastic sleeve and push it over the tilt rod which projects from the headrail so that it is above the slot in the tilt rod (Fig. A). Insert the metal clip into the hole in the end of the loose tilt wand. The round part of the clip should be located in the hole. Now slide the open end of the clip sideways.
  
  Adjusting the Roman Blind drop
  
  A short length of ladder braid has been left at the bottom of the Roman Blind in case you wish to adjust its finished length. Lift up the slat which covers the bottom rail of the Roman Blind to make the necessary adjustments. Any remaining braid can be trimmed off and the ends concealed inside the bottom rail.
  
  Operating the Roman Blind
  
  Caution The slats should be tilted only when the Roman Blind is in its lowest position - ie fully extended. Furthermore, the Roman Blind should be raised or lowered only when the slats are horizontal - ie fully open.
  
  Tilting the slats
  
  To tilt the slats on a Roman Blind fitted with a tilt wand rotate the wand clockwise or anti-clockwise until the desired position is obtained. If the Roman Blind has tilt cords pull one cord to tilt the slats in one direction and the other cord to reverse the action.
  
  Adjusting the level of the slats
  
  To lower and raise the Roman Blind pull the lift cords towards the centre of the Roman Blind to release the cord lock. Raise or lower the Roman Blind to the required level and move the cord towards the outside of the Roman Blind to lock the cords in position.
